18:13:38 <bay|AX|Gundam> thank you for sticking around
18:13:50 <bay|AX|Gundam> to kick things off, we're going to show.... well... first.. i want to mention something, if you stay to the end of the panel....
18:14:00 <bay|AX|Gundam> while supplies last... you get a present
18:14:13 <bay|AX|Gundam> To begin
18:14:19 <bay|AX|Gundam> My friends in the back are going to play a DVD for you.
18:14:33 <bay|AX|Gundam> This is a very cool exclusive presentation of a DVD that was prepared for this panel.
18:15:10 <bay|AX|Gundam> (History of Gundam? Showing MSG scenes... and talking about the background)
18:15:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> (The World of Gundam)
18:15:48 <bay|AX|Gundam> (Established a new genre "real robot anime")
18:15:55 <bay|AX|Gundam> ("the protagonist is not a one dimensional hero")
18:16:02 <bay|AX|Gundam> (apparently only talking about the first series there?)
18:16:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> (1979 MSG - background...)
18:16:36 <bay|AX|Gundam> (1981 released as 3 theatrical features)
18:16:43 <bay|AX|Gundam> (1985 zeta.. sequel)
18:16:51 <bay|AX|Gundam> (1989 and 0080....)
18:17:05 <bay|AX|Gundam> (can't keep up with this)
18:17:05 <bay|AX|Gundam> (1994 G gundam)
18:17:17 <bay|AX|Gundam> (1995 wing to massive applause)
18:17:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> (2002 seed to boos)

18:18:43 <bay|AX|Gundam> (Latest project)
18:18:43 <bay|AX|Gundam> (weird, no origin mention?)
18:18:43 <bay|AX|Gundam> (Talking about the mobile suits now)
18:18:56 <bay|AX|Gundam> (identity established by tricolor coloring and v shaped antenna....)
18:19:07 <bay|AX|Gundam> ("daring forms" being created)
18:19:19 <bay|AX|Gundam> (end of video...)
18:19:32 <bay|AX|Gundam> If we could have the house lights
18:19:34 <bay|AX|Gundam> we'll introduce the panelists
18:19:46 <bay|AX|Gundam> great pleaure to introduce the president of bandai entertainment, ken iyadomi
18:19:57 <bay|AX|Gundam> and now to call to the stage, sasaki-san
18:20:01 <bay|AX|Gundam> gundam division general manager
18:20:17 <bay|AX|Gundam> senior managing director miyakwa-san from surnise
18:20:32 <bay|AX|Gundam> (s for sasaki, m for miyakawa)
18:20:37 <bay|AX|Gundam> will start with a brief message
18:20:54 <bay|AX|Gundam> My name is Shin Sasaki nice to meet you (in english)
18:21:12 <bay|AX|Gundam> My name is Yasuo miyakwa, I'm very happy to see gundam fans in LA. (in englsih)
18:21:26 <bay|AX|Gundam> N: Going to begin by asking frequently asked questions
18:21:53 <bay|AX|Gundam> This is the first official panel, why did sunrise choose this moment to reintroduce it to the USA?
18:22:16 <bay|AX|Gundam> Sasaki right, Miyakwa left
18:23:15 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: Well, we've come to hold this panel today because gundam has been around since 30 years ago in japan and gundam has been introduced to the states before... such as various titles and relased in various forms
18:23:35 <bay|AX|Gundam> but it's not as popular as in japan and in order to create more gundam fans, we wanted to go back to the fundamentals and reintorduce gundam and there will be a new gundam show in japan in october, gundam age
18:23:41 <bay|AX|Gundam> something we want to introduce to the american market
18:24:37 <bay|AX|Gundam> N: other question we get asked alot... there is a gundam for everyone.. gundam 00 and unicorn are the lastest and are popular but very different... how are new gundam projects created in japan by sunrise
18:24:55 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: First we decide by deciding what kind of target audience we are going to bitch the title too
18:25:32 <bay|AX|Gundam> For UC universe gundam, like unicorn, we don't want to break continuity or established history which would be a natural extension of gundam (missed part of that)
18:26:14 <bay|AX|Gundam> When it comes to stuff like Seed and 00, we want a newer younger audience, the teen market, we want to incorporate something more exciting and incorporates popular culture
18:26:38 <bay|AX|Gundam> But this is still all Gundam, so when we come with a project, we need to decide what to retain and what to forget and still keep gundam
18:26:47 <bay|AX|Gundam> N: So the spirit is to have it interactive
18:27:33 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q&A
18:28:48 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Okay, um, my question, the UC century series seems popular since it's the first one, but it gets harder to fit within that timeline... but there was a PS2 game that had cutscene that talked about the thoroughbreed.(?).. units 4 and 5.. red and blue ones....Any plans for a series based on them...
18:29:13 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: I'm impressed you know that much.
18:29:29 <bay|AX|Gundam> Currently no plans to base a show on units 4 and 5
18:29:53 <bay|AX|Gundam> However 4 and 5 were originally from MSV extension to the UC gundam, so it's possible they will show in the UC universe gundam
18:30:15 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: More of a request than a gundam.... steampunk spinoff of gundam?
18:31:16 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: Gundam is based on an engine that works on a new tech called nuclear fusion so something based on steam is a little...
18:31:36 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Feel that the later series.. Seed and Seed Destiny are influenced by the merch and the favoritism
18:31:43 <bay|AX|Gundam> which results in a very lack luster story
18:31:47 <bay|AX|Gundam> do you sometimes try to balance having a good story with the merchandise
18:32:19 <bay|AX|Gundam> if you tell a good story [lost] then people will buy the merch anyway
18:32:31 <bay|AX|Gundam> (Gundam fans are hostile)
18:34:00 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: Well.. the gundam universe is diverse..and gundam is a diverse title, so there are a lot of target audience
18:34:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> and seed was intended for a younger audience so the UC fans haven't come to accept it...
18:34:25 <bay|AX|Gundam> but Seed itself was based on a structured story with character sthat were intended to be fully developed...
18:34:35 <bay|AX|Gundam> i believe that american fans have come to support seed.
18:34:46 <bay|AX|Gundam> (missed the last part)
18:35:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Plans to release new MS igloo in the near future?
18:35:36 <bay|AX|Gundam> A: Please petition bandai Ent
18:35:54 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Any plans to re-release the original series and the ones that are out of print in the states?
18:36:07 <bay|AX|Gundam> like 0080, ms 8th team...
18:37:04 <bay|AX|Gundam> A: we work with sunrise on when some will be relased...
18:37:15 <bay|AX|Gundam> (i skipped part of that answer because it was "that's all in print")
18:37:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> How many want to see double zeta in the US?'
18:37:38 <bay|AX|Gundam> Iyadomi: We need to talk about it (Sasaki-san?)
18:38:05 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q; my question is about Gundam Age... more details... target audience... what universe?
18:38:35 <bay|AX|Gundam> M: Gundam Age will be different because the story will span over 100 years
18:39:02 <bay|AX|Gundam> And the audience in mind is little brother from young children to teens, so it's intended to be more accesible than traditional gundam
18:39:42 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: I'll probably get crucified but I enjoyed gundam seed... anyway...about Gundam Age... you said targeted young... i can't tell if it's from the art style or not... but are the pilots children and not teenagers?
18:40:12 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: The main character in Age is 14 years old...
18:40:22 <bay|AX|Gundam> About the same age as traditional gundam pilots
18:40:49 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Will the new gundam series be released worldwide simultaneously?
18:41:00 <bay|AX|Gundam> (a good question~)
18:41:25 <bay|AX|Gundam> M: Gundam Age will not be simultaneous like Unicorn, but we want a worldwide release as close to the japanese release as possible
18:42:13 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Unicorn has that old flavor look, but it looks revamped vs the other series... was it harder to create the art style for unicorn... to keep theold look but keep it revamped
18:43:42 <bay|AX|Gundam> M: I have been the executive producer for both seed and unicorn and i can say neither is more difficult and we have not put any less effort into either work, the work is much the same
18:44:28 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: For those who are UC fans... we have this big gap between F91 and Victory... planning to reveal more about Crossbone (applaud)?
18:44:47 <bay|AX|Gundam> S: Currently no plans.
18:45:04 <bay|AX|Gundam> But gundam is about always filling in the gaps in history so that's something to keep in mind as well
18:45:37 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Heard about Gundam Origin...that it would be being adapted.. any insight about that
18:46:13 <bay|AX|Gundam> M: Currently, the only thing we've settled on is to produce it, we havne't decided if it will be a tv show or movie
18:46:34 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q; Will we ever see a final confrontation between Amuro and Char?
18:47:14 <bay|AX|Gundam> S; that's something i'd love to see myself
18:47:22 <bay|AX|Gundam> and we don't know if both of them are still alive (spoiler alert?)
18:47:45 <bay|AX|Gundam> (last question)
18:48:04 <bay|AX|Gundam> Q: Going to bring back Tomino to make a new Gundam?
18:48:59 <bay|AX|Gundam> S; Currently not in the plans but he is the original creator of gundam, so if there is an opportunity...we'd like to pursue it
18:49:07 <bay|AX|Gundam> N: now some parting words and a little video for the panel
18:49:56 <bay|AX|Gundam> S; Thank you very much for coming today, I'm very glad to get a first hand feel of lots of (fans in the US)
18:50:12 <bay|AX|Gundam> And we'd like to commit to delivering the latest gundam to your market as soon as possible
18:50:12 <bay|AX|Gundam> so we are counting on your support for that
18:51:07 <bay|AX|Gundam> M: Thank you for today. Gundam has been around for the past 30 years, and we'd like to continue it for 30, 50 years so then it would be appealing to a wide generation of gundam...
18:51:20 <bay|AX|Gundam> but if at 70 years of gundam, i might not be around, but we would like to continue it
18:51:30 <bay|AX|Gundam> N: before we show it, (ax events)
18:52:33 <bay|AX|Gundam> Let's thank our guests
18:52:39 <bay|AX|Gundam> And now...lights... we'll show the video...
18:52:42 <bay|AX|Gundam> a special DVD
18:53:04 <bay|AX|Gundam> (A century spanning new gundam saga)
18:53:13 <bay|AX|Gundam> (what...is this an age PV)
18:53:24 <bay|AX|Gundam> (Gundam Age PV)
18:54:44 <bay|AX|Gundam> (there are haros)
18:55:12 <bay|AX|Gundam> Thank you everyone
