13:56:45 <bay|AX|Miku> Hello anime expo
13:57:08 <bay|AX|Miku> (standard disclaimer time)
14:03:16 <bay|AX|Miku> All righty
14:03:21 <bay|AX|Miku> My name is danny choo.
14:03:48 <bay|AX|Miku> We saw people with weapons outside...
14:03:53 <bay|AX|Miku> So people with Leeks... wave them around
14:04:41 <bay|AX|Miku> (he wants the audience to scream Miku-san Maji Tenshi)
14:05:04 <bay|AX|Miku> introducing wataru sasaki, creator of vocaloid software
14:09:21 <bay|AX|Miku> and onyx kobayashi-san
14:05:48 <bay|AX|Miku> hello...wow, that's a lot of people
14:06:02 <bay|AX|Miku> wow, that's a lot of people, thank you for coming
14:07:07 <bay|AX|Miku> (apologizes to the people who came from japan and ended up coming a day later because their flight got canceled)
14:08:05 <bay|AX|Miku> let me introduce myself, my name is sasaki, im with crypton future media, i've been inovlved with hatsune from the begining, i do production, planning, engineer who combined it to tmake it into a full package...
14:08:10 <bay|AX|Miku> (right)
14:10:20 <bay|AX|Miku> hi my name is onyx kobayashi, i'm one of the many creators of vocaloid music, there are a lot of people in japan who create music with the technology, called vocaloidP, more than the people in this room
14:09:14 <bay|AX|Miku> (left)
14:10:03 <bay|AX|Miku> k: i'm here because i'm also on the tech staff for the concert..
14:10:47 <bay|AX|Miku> s: so let's begin by going through miku from the point of sale to today, first from the crypton future media point of view
14:11:21 <bay|AX|Miku> i don't think introductions are needed, but let's first play a song by kobayashi called saihate
14:12:51 <bay|AX|Miku> s; so when did you create this
14:12:53 <bay|AX|Miku> k: i think 2007
14:13:01 <bay|AX|Miku> s; i think it was early,
14:13:24 <bay|AX|Miku> K; (missed ~was earlier in the year?)
14:13:48 <bay|AX|Miku> S: so i hear, not only did you create music, but you did the video and illustration, the whole work, did you think that was necessary
14:14:32 <bay|AX|Miku> K: well the starting point was i had a band, which had to split up because we lost the vocal, but my thought was that since we don't have a singer, we could let hatsune miku sing
14:15:13 <bay|AX|Miku> so, with the vocaloid technology, i can do it all by myself, the video, music ilustration, if i can do it.. let's give it a show and see what happens
14:17:00 <bay|AX|Miku> S: so kobayashi-san, you are a great example of a person who creates song and video using volcaoid technology, there are a lot of vocaloidp, they seem to understand how music is created among them, but by a show of hands, how many people here know at least 2 people who create music with vocaloid technology
14:17:45 <bay|AX|Miku> (asks someone dressed as megupoid-like to name two songs)
14:18:22 <bay|AX|Miku> (names supercell and deco*27)
14:18:33 <bay|AX|Miku> K: deco is really popular in japan too
14:18:55 <bay|AX|Miku> and i heard she's going to go on tour with a famous actress in japan...
14:19:21 <bay|AX|Miku> S: i feel there is an increaes in people who are active as a professional and act as vocalp as welll
14:20:19 <bay|AX|Miku> it seems like ~40% of the people in the room raised their hand
14:20:42 <bay|AX|Miku> and there are a lot of people like kobayashi-san who do it all by himself and there are groups of people where each person does each part individually
14:23:04 <bay|AX|Miku> the vocaloid music started appearing in summer of 2007 on nico douga... there was 10k and 100k's or even millions of views in kobayashi's case... those numbers were a surprise to us, especially as it expanded worldwide through youtube.. and the popularity led to me being here... i'm surprised but i'm honored to be here (paraphrased)
14:24:13 <bay|AX|Miku> K: vocaloid in japan, the popularity probably comes from 3 places: the character miku herself, the process of artificially creating new work, and the things that the creators create that are widely propogated
14:24:39 <bay|AX|Miku> so i was under the impression of the character of miku was popular in the US, and not the other two parts, but what do you think
14:26:27 <bay|AX|Miku> S: so in japan, in further addition, there are a lot of people who check nico nico douga and see the vocaloid rank and ther eare people who always listen to the top songs on nico of vocaloids, i assume if you did tht here, you would search on youtube and look for things with large numbers of hits, i'm curious how many would do that, i'm sorry, i'm here to do marketing as well if you could please raise hands
14:26:39 <bay|AX|Miku> ?: (youtube is ruling the world)
14:27:52 <bay|AX|Miku> S: when i hear stories about youtube, there are people doing stuff like this in other countries (specific), and they are doing exactly that, it's a worldwide phenomenno but being in japan, i can't get a feel for what's going on outside japan
14:28:32 <bay|AX|Miku> so i'm here overseas in a capcity like this for the first time and did some interviews several times, but not used to it yet
14:28:49 <bay|AX|Miku> K; has anyone in here who have actually used vocaloid to create music
14:29:04 <bay|AX|Miku> ?: (a lot of japnese people raising their hand)
14:29:09 <bay|AX|Miku> (unraise your hand if you are japanese)
14:29:29 <bay|AX|Miku> S; maybe because that's we have not officially released the product in the US
14:29:33 <bay|AX|Miku> (there were very few hands)
14:30:26 <bay|AX|Miku> so one thing i wanted to do what to guage the demand for the english version (Cheers)
14:30:41 <bay|AX|Miku> there's no demo of the english version here now, sorry...
14:30:48 <bay|AX|Miku> but there is something about something happening tonight somewhere....
14:31:09 <bay|AX|Miku> (as was mentioned in the other panel, thus not secret)
14:31:21 <bay|AX|Miku> hatsune miku was created by recording the voice of saki fujita in japan
14:32:01 <bay|AX|Miku> being japanese, she's not an native english speaker
14:32:07 <bay|AX|Miku> (Extremely paraphrased)
14:33:06 <bay|AX|Miku> so fujita's san english has a bit of a japanese accent, its not like native... but for the english version, we've recorded more patterns where stuff can be done more natively
14:33:14 <bay|AX|Miku> (semi-paraphrase)
14:33:25 <bay|AX|Miku> (~so we want to see how that product would do)
14:34:45 <bay|AX|Miku> so we're certainly working on the english version of hatsunemiku, but another thing we're doing is hatsune miku append, which is an expansion, the original is mostly cute voices, append includes sad, and other voices... it doesn't go as far as full emotion, but there is more variation
14:35:34 <bay|AX|Miku> to do this panel, we contacted the staff in japan to get approval for a song from a vocal P to see how this is different
14:35:37 <bay|AX|Miku> you will hear the voice switch
14:38:21 <bay|AX|Miku> so actually, when this product was released, a lot of people had gotten used to hatsune miku sound... so there were poeple who thought the additional voices didn't sound like miku
14:38:54 <bay|AX|Miku> but as the product got released, and more people experienced the product, a lot more vocaloidPs have experience with it...
14:39:06 <bay|AX|Miku> (missed part)
14:40:40 <bay|AX|Miku> but of course as people start ot use the append product more and more, there are people who actually debuted on the append product, and people tried a lot of things, people tried darked voices to do a ballad. or whipser sounds to do a shibuyakei, and electric sound... [missed] and the popularity of the product increased
14:41:43 <bay|AX|Miku> what we learned from the append release is that as vocaloidP's create more and more music, what matters is them creating good songs which creates fans which creates acceptance of the product
14:43:10 <bay|AX|Miku> so there are dark voices and sweet voices, and as someone who produced the voices... it may be my taste, but i think it's wonderful different types of music can be created that way... listening to the songs that i like lets me view hatsune miku's worldwide acceptance
14:44:00 <bay|AX|Miku> so kobayashi-san, you bought append, and i'm sure you used it, as soomeone who creates music with the product, what does it mean to you that you have more voices to work with
14:44:45 <bay|AX|Miku> K: so human voices naturally have variations, and i think it's just interesting and great that there are more ways to express that through the additional product
14:45:47 <bay|AX|Miku> S: in the english version, the voice that's included is somewhere between normal and dark... a neutral voice in the average
14:45:59 <bay|AX|Miku> and it would probably be a good match with akiba techno pops...
14:46:14 <bay|AX|Miku> but if you want variations, if there is a demand for it, we'll consider adding it in the future
14:46:39 <bay|AX|Miku> could i see by a show of hands, how many would rather see more english vocaloid music than japanese music
14:46:46 <bay|AX|Miku> (a small number)
14:47:38 <bay|AX|Miku> K; personal opinion... [missed] i'd love to see what english creators do with vocaloid
14:48:45 <bay|AX|Miku> so before vocaloid came along, i was a total amateur and never thought ot create music, but when it came along, i got better at it and. [lost] woud love to see how hatsune music would change the music scene in the US and other places in the rest of the world
14:49:20 <bay|AX|Miku> in japan, some vocaloid music are released on cds and actually sell well, and on the music ranking chart, some does really well, the japanese market was affected
14:50:13 <bay|AX|Miku> i would love to see vocaloid music chasing after lady gaga on the music chart, and i'm waiting for that day, so if you would tell saakai-san to hurry up and finish the english version that would be great, so please do that
14:50:30 <bay|AX|Miku> the english version will be releaed?
14:50:48 <bay|AX|Miku> S; yes, we've spent a lot of money on it, and if it isn't going to be released, i'm think i'm going to get yelled at
14:50:53 <bay|AX|Miku> (paraphrase)
14:51:11 <bay|AX|Miku> i'm curious about what people outside japan will do with miku
14:51:18 <bay|AX|Miku> i've seen a china creator make a love song
14:51:25 <bay|AX|Miku> (missed the other example)
14:51:55 <bay|AX|Miku> K: so far, we've focused our discussion on the voice synthesizing technology, but hatsune miku as a character is popular in japan
14:52:18 <bay|AX|Miku> since we're at AX, i think we have to talk to her as a character, or else we won't be able to go home
14:52:31 <bay|AX|Miku> S: by show of hands, how many like the character of hatsune mikiu
14:52:48 <bay|AX|Miku> there is also kagamine rin/len, how many are fans of that product...
14:53:03 <bay|AX|Miku> K: how many people like onxy kobayashi
14:53:08 <bay|AX|Miku> that's a medicore response
14:53:21 <bay|AX|Miku> S; how many like luka
14:53:47 <bay|AX|Miku> how about the pre-miku meiko and kaito...
14:54:15 <bay|AX|Miku> so we're developing a new version of kaito
14:54:25 <bay|AX|Miku> i brought the sound from japan
14:54:55 <bay|AX|Miku> so i have a song that was created with a slightly differnet kaito voice...
14:56:24 <bay|AX|Miku> (can't hear over the song)
14:57:01 <bay|AX|Miku> with western influence...but vocaloid... people have freedom to create what they want.. (can't hear rest)
14:57:26 <bay|AX|Miku> this is sidetracking, but i think we heard more of a woman's voice there...
14:57:51 <bay|AX|Miku> so the new specs allow kaito's voice to be adjusted so higher ranges are possible as well
14:58:11 <bay|AX|Miku> miku is supposedly a girl and kaito is a guy, but vocaloid doesn't have a gender
14:58:46 <bay|AX|Miku> so you might hear a youtube song created by kaito that sounds like a girl or miku as a girl and you might get shocked by which you end up liking, so be careful
14:58:56 <bay|AX|Miku> K: will this be on sale in america too?
14:58:58 <bay|AX|Miku> S; that's a scary question
15:00:00 <bay|AX|Miku> what we're noticing is the new fans are primarily girls, and that led to the popularity of kaito and len and other companies... kaito was originally unpopular, but with miku, the popularity soared
15:00:58 <bay|AX|Miku> the person who does kaito's vocie is a big lover of american jazz, and he's been studying american jazz alot and he's been studying english, so we're investigating possibilities of creating an english version using his voice
15:01:17 <bay|AX|Miku> I'm sorry, but i think the time limit has come
15:01:51 <bay|AX|Miku> K: sorry, i wanted to talk about how much i love hatsune miku, but i won't be able to get into the details of that
15:02:22 <bay|AX|Miku> S: but we have youtube, we have facebook, so the world is shrinking, we can communicate with eachother almost instantly,we'll try and release information for you in english
15:03:05 <bay|AX|Miku> K: so there are a number of a different ways to enjoy vocaloid, but i would love for people to figure out their own ways to enjoy vocaloid...
15:03:18 <bay|AX|Miku> (~and i would love for you to turn into creators of vocaloid)
15:03:20 <bay|AX|Miku> end
