14:28:27 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Quickly, we're in town to see you first and forsmost, and we have a corncert tomorrow with the baltimore symphany
14:28:32 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> we're close to sold out but not quite there
14:28:36 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> i think we're here for Q&A
14:29:07 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> (Please line up orderly ......everyone runs)
14:29:55 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Welcome to the US...
14:30:19 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Question about Earthbound Papas... any more CDs under that project
14:30:41 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: The second CD will be out next spring, 2012, I hope this project will do music for a video game project
14:30:58 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q; What's it like touring the US? How is it different than Japan?
14:31:35 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well, since I'm japanese, I have a gist of what kind of reaction i get from a japanese, audience, so I'm nervous about how an american audience will reactio to FF music
14:31:44 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> But i'm happy to see them enjoy the music
14:31:58 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Any new things in the works?
14:34:52 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well this is an inspriation I got yesterday. I love doing orchestra, Live bands are great too, but performances require logististcs.. so what can one man do.. karaoke? and I can play keyboard to that and do a small gig, and i'm going to do that within the year at japan
14:33:34 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: What song was the most meaningful to you of the ones you composed?
14:33:44 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: All of my pieces are my children and I can't play favorites
14:33:49 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> (Missed part of 2 ago)
14:34:04 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: How has composing music changed between the 8bit era and today
14:34:44 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: In terms of doing melony and harmony, it's the same, but I can use more intstruments and do studio recording and put them into the game, so the (effort?) is actually easier
14:35:07 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Favorite Soundtrack, not your work, outside square enix
14:35:15 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Professor Layton series available in the states?
14:35:26 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> I love the music from the professor Layton series
14:35:42 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Do you have a favorite beer in the US (from the ninja legion)
14:35:46 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Samuel Adams
14:36:05 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Have you ever want to do something else beside music?
14:36:11 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A; wanted to become a pro wrestler
14:36:40 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Do you ever expect that your music for video games would expand into distant worlds and black mages and other stuff for the future?
14:37:21 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well I never thought that video game music would take off like this and it still feels like a dream, and if i could forcast what would happen in the game industry, i'd be rich
14:37:25 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Have you ever cosplayed?
14:37:45 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well I haven't, but in the black mages rockband, I have put on the outfit
14:37:59 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Which do you like Coke or Pepsi?
14:38:01 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> (.....)
14:38:26 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: What music draws an emotion response for you, videogame or otherwise?
14:39:24 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A; That would be a lot of old film scores from old european movies?
14:39:36 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: What was your thought process with the chrono series? How did you feel working on it?
14:40:19 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well, the main music for the chrono series is yasuda..and he worked oto hard and he collpased... so was called in, so I only helped out a bit
14:40:57 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Do you write for the story or the characters in the story?
14:41:06 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Both
14:41:38 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Outside of video games, have there been any new and upcoming composers that you have been impressed or inspired by
14:42:26 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: I haven't been listening to contemporary music too much, I've been listening to older jazz and classical, the only thing contemporary that i've listened to recently is Lady Gaga
14:42:49 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: What would you say to people who want the finer things in game? The music, the story, etc?
14:43:01 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> (Question comparing FF to CoD)
14:44:11 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well,it's very difficult to have a grasp on what's popular in contemporary times, but it's not good to insist on everything being the same, things need to change and a culture that doen't change is destined for extinction
14:44:17 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: How long does it take to make one piece of music?
14:44:43 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: It depends on the piece but if it's a shorrt one, I've done 50 (or was that 15) minutes.. sometimes as long as a week
14:44:57 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: (Missed.. favorite musician?)
14:45:32 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: I have a lot, for rock music, it's ordinary but the beatles are always important... they are always great to listen to
14:48:24 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> For classical, Tschkovsky and Rodell
14:45:51 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Why didn't you end up following your dream of becoming a wrestler?
14:46:08 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well, I'm small, so maybe if I went to mexico...
14:46:45 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Prior to the development of different games, have there been songs you already written that you thought would be perfect?
14:46:48 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A; No
14:46:57 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Do you play any of the games you compose for?
14:47:03 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> If so, which is your favorite?
14:47:35 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well, I played all the games I've worked on, and I'm fond of all of them, but if i had to pick a favorite, I had the most tough time with FF6
14:48:03 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: What inspires you to keep going? To keep making music that millions of fans love dearly
14:48:46 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: It's hard to describe, but perhaps I'm thinking to myself that if i come up with something...(lost)
14:49:07 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: When you create some of your songs... battle on the bridge 5-12(???) is that more or less challenging?
14:50:07 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: It's fun work, but it's just not me. When those works are done. There's another arranger who does the arrangemnet, and they put their own input in, so it's not as stale(?) as a 1 person job..
14:50:21 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Most difficult or tedius or most timing consuming work?
14:50:52 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Most difficult was... One Winged Angel... that's the one that took 1 week
14:51:39 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> There has been no piece that has been tedious
14:51:23 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Favorite arrangement or medium to use? Soloist or orchestra?
14:51:38 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: They are all fun, they all come in diffferent flavors
14:51:53 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Has there been a piece that surprsied you at how popular it became of the FF peices?
14:52:08 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Chocobo
14:52:25 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Any other projects coming up with the black mages? US tour?
14:53:16 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Well, black mages is no longer... 2 of the 4 members have left and we are now earthbound papas because we can't use the name black mages since squenix owns it
14:53:46 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: First piece you ever wrote? Opinion on (Yoko) in the Seatbelts
14:54:19 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: I can't answer your second question because I don't know it but I know the first piece i composed
14:54:27 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> it was included in CD i relaesed in 2010
14:54:42 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> and it's a collection of pieces that sound like children's music and it was a piece i made when i was 10 years old
14:55:46 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Favorite FF character? (check question)
14:55:41 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Since I wrote the character music for all of them, there is much fondness, but there is one girl who dies almost immediately...

14:55:52 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: Yes
14:56:02 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: inspiration for FF7 music, particularly main theme
14:56:39 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: I was coming up with the japanese music of what looneytown america would have... and that's what i came up with
14:56:52 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: When you work with different arrangers, do you get to choose who arranges it or does the publisher choose
14:56:55 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: I choose them
14:57:09 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: Can you whistle the FF victory fanfare for US?
14:57:38 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Q: How exactly did you start your career in music?
14:57:46 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> Anything that motivated you
14:58:20 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> A: I have alwyas loved music and wanted a career in the music field, even if it were the periphery
14:58:38 <bay|Ota|Uematsu> and my first job in the industry was the sound track for a.. (dropped)
